The Subconscious Mind: Hack into your inner GPS and set the destination to Success

GPS is one of the most revolutionary gifts to our generation. At least that is what I feel. I have made numerous journeys to the mountains, rivers, and valleys, just by selecting a destination from the map and believing in the underlying algorithms. You can reprogram the subconscious mind to work in a similar way.

For the GPS to work, it figures out where you are and where you need to go. When you type in your destination, the navigational system with the help of satellites locates your coordinates and Boom ..  a clear route gets mapped for you.

Realize this, for this is of prime importance.

When you plan to go somewhere, you just decide on the destination. At this stage, how you are going to reach your destination is not important. You just decide on the destination and the ‘HOW’  gets mapped out later.

Success in life works much the same way.

Fix your Goals and let the subconscious mind guide you

Decide and fix the goal in your mind. It should be clear as a crystal.

You should see the video, if not already, of Jim Carrey’s interview with Oprah where he talks about his Visualizations. He mentions that he used to live his dream every day. In his visualization, he would drive his dream car and feel ecstatic. He even signed himself a cheque for 10 million dollars, dated it Thanksgiving 1995 and added an annotation, ‘for acting services rendered.’

There is a letter from Bruce Lee which he wrote to himself. It is hanging on a wall at Planet Hollywood in New York City. In the letter he wrote, “By 1980 I will be the best known Oriental movie star in the United States and I will have secured 10 million USD….and in return I will give the very best acting I could possibly give every single time I am in front of the camera.”

Do take a moment to appreciate the clarity of their goals. It is not just wishful thinking. By defining their goals, they commanded the subconscious mind to bring their goals to reality.

Nowadays, athletes all around the world are using this technique of visualization. They will visualize their success, scoring that last goal, pitching that perfect ball, running the victory sprint.

Our mind strives for anything which it seems possible. The trick here is to pass on to the subconscious mind a clear image of your goal.

Here’s what happens when you do this right

Let’s take the example of your car. You love your car and are protective about it, if not possessive. You take all the necessary means to see it running in a perfect condition. All these emotions result because of the image of the car you have in your head.

When you visualize your goals in your mind with all the details and the feelings, you will attach the same kind of emotions to your goals that you have had for your car.

Our brain is a goal-seeking organism.

Once you pass on the clear blueprint, the subconscious mind will conjure up all the resources for you. It will guide you with hunches and intuitions or might bring you in contact with the right person just at the right time and not a moment before it.

It would be interesting to mention here that Friedrich August who is credited with the discovery of the benzene, said that he received the inspiration in his dreams where he saw a vision of a snake biting its tail. That led to the discovery of ring structure of benzene.

Also, James Watson, the co-discoverer of the double-helix structure of the DNA, confers that he had visions of two snakes intertwined, with their heads at the opposite end (What is with subconscious and snakes !).R L Stevenson would go to sleep commanding his subconscious for the next literary marvel. He mentioned that he came up with the plot of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde from his visions.

The list goes on…

Dream Big Dreams with the subconscious mind by your side

Where would you be if you had it your way?

When I ask this question to different people, they still choose to answer with a hint of mediocrity. We have been conditioned by our society, friends, and family to such an extent that we limit ourselves even if given a free will.

What kind of life you want to create for yourself, your parents, your spouse, your kids if things moved according to your will.

How would your house look like, your bank account, your neighborhood, the kind of people you would want to have around you, your job?

Now realize what is stopping you. Why are you afraid to take actions. As you read this, you do realize that somewhere in the world at this same time there is someone striking a million dollar deal, astronomers trying to capture the image of the black hole and scientists are close to beating cancer.

Do not hold yourself back.

Spread your wings as far as you can.

How different would the world be if Wright brothers would not dare to fly, or J L Baird to invent television, or Graham Bell to transfer voices over the wire. We would still live in a society full of prejudices and inequality if not for Martin Luther Knig Jr. or Mother Teresa with her message of service or Gandhi with his teachings of Non-Violence.

They dreamt big, went against the common beliefs and aspired to create a better environment. They changed the way we look at the world.

We possess the same power that resided in them.

A quote from Jack Canefield’s book –

If you limit your choices to what seems possible or reasonable, you disconnect yourself from what you truly want, and all that is left is a compromise.

Conscious vs. Subconscious mind

Conscious mind helps us make a logical decision. But, when we limit ourselves to thinking all the time logically, we miss out the magic in our life. After all, life is not always logical. It is full of wonders, paradoxes, and mysteries.

When we rely only on our conscious mind, we restrict ourselves to the knowledge we already know, and we miss out to tap into the power of subconscious mind.

Let me explain this a bit more with content from metaphysics.

One of the sages I met told me that ‘we all are one being‘ When I asked him to explain further, he mentioned that there is a single universal consciousness that resides in all of us. That we are all connected by what can be best described as a single data bank (this is my version of his explanation).

The subconscious mind is aware of what was, what is and what will be. We only need to alert enough to its messages.

You might not be aware of the whole picture while taking a decision and that is why you need to connect with the inner voice. You will receive guidance like many others we read before. If you are unsure of a business deal, or a job change, or a new relation, pass the matter to your subconscious just before you go to sleep.

When we talk about subconscious guidance, it is important to bring the topic of meditation. Meditation helps you unclutter your mind with unnecessary voices, and this helps in distinguishing between subconscious motivation and a random thought.

You Gotta Believe

You are placed here to serve a particular purpose. When you act in accordance with your true purpose, the whole world benefits.

Remember that you were not an accident. You weren’t mass produced. You are unique with your talents and gifts. Your dreams and aspirations are unique to you, and it does not need validation from any other soul.

Do not undermine the power of subconscious mind. Believe in the underlying principles much the same way you believe in the GPS navigational system.

You can be anything you want to be, if only you
Believe with sufficient conviction and act in
Accordance with your faith; for whatever the mind
Can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve
